“Did you keep up with the running too while I was gone?” A few glass bottles rattle together when I slam the door shut. Turning, I carefully lean back against the cool metal.

“I did,” he says with a yawn. His sleepy eyes flick to the clock on the microwave just over my shoulder. “It’s four thirty. What the hell are you doing up?”

“Had to pee.” I twist off the cap and chug half the contents before taking a breath.

His attention sharpens at the movement. “You feeling okay?”
